Open Purifier

A fully open, modular water purifier. Choose the filtration stages, the sensors, and the power supply. Every cartridge is documented, and the core measures your water going in and coming out, so you can see exactly what it removed.

Your filter is a black box, and so is your water.

Cartridges are proprietary and sealed. Some carry a chip so the unit refuses any filter but the manufacturer's own. You cannot inspect the media, substitute it, or refill it, and the day the company stops selling the cartridge, the whole appliance is landfill.

Worse, you never learn what the filter actually did. The sensors, if there are any, report a green light and nothing else. You are asked to trust a closed box with the one thing you drink every day.

An open filtration stack, measured going in and coming out.

Open Purifier separates the water from everything around it. Stages are swappable modules on a standard housing. Choose sediment, carbon, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and UV in the order your water needs. Every membrane and cartridge is documented and refillable, and third-party media drops straight in.

Every part comes apart with a common tool. Cartridges, pump, valves, and sensors are all user-serviceable, and the service manual and parts list ship with the unit. You maintain it yourself, for as long as you want it.

A common monitoring core sits across the stack and reads the water before and after each stage. It tells you your TDS, turbidity, and pH in and out, tracks how much life each filter has left, and serves all of it to your network. The green light becomes a number you can check.

Every stage. Your choice.

You don't trust the light. You read the water.

The stages, power, and form are chosen when you order the hardware. The SDK is for the running unit: connect to any Open Purifier on your network and read the water quality straight from the core, in and out. Python, Rust, and C.

Ask what each filter has left, trigger a flush, and log every reading over time. The number on the wall and the number on your network come from the same sensors.

Python
import openpurifier

# connect to a purifier on your network
unit = openpurifier.connect("purifier.local")

# read the water going in and coming out
water = unit.quality()
print(water.tds_in, water.tds_out)  # 412, 18 ppm
print(water.ph, water.turbidity)     # 7.2, 0.1 NTU

# how much life is left in each stage?
for stage in unit.filters():
    print(stage.name, stage.life)  # "carbon", 0.63

# dispense at an exact temperature
unit.dispense(ml=500, temp_c=85)

# flush the membrane on demand
unit.flush()

One purifier. Built in stages.

Phase 1

Core & Basic Filtration

The monitoring core with a sediment and carbon stack on a standard housing. The first open cartridge you can open, inspect, and refill.

In Development

Phase 2

Water Monitoring

TDS, turbidity, and pH sensors read the water in and out. A live readout and a timestamped log, on the unit and served to your network.

Planned

Phase 3

Membrane & Advanced Stages

Reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and UV modules. The core learns to flush the membrane and track its life across every stage.

Planned

Phase 4

Open Cartridge Standard

Publish the housing and cartridge specification. Refillable bodies, third-party media, and remineralizers drop into any Open Purifier without a chip to defeat.

Planned

Phase 5

Form Factors

Under-sink, wall-mount, and countertop bodies in stainless and glass, all running on standard AC. The same core, sized for a kitchen or a building.

Research

Phase 6

Open Purifier Standard

Publish the full connector and housing specification so any stage, sensor, or supply can be built by anyone. The purifier becomes a standard.

Research

The stack is open. The water is yours to see.

We are in active design. Follow the build log, contribute to the specification, or propose a filtration stage, sensor, or cartridge.
